Ingredients
- ½ cup Steel-cut oats (gluten-free certified if needed)
- 2 cups Water
- 1 medium Ripe pear, peeled, cored, and cut into small chunks (Bartlett or Anjou work well)
- 1 cup Water for steaming
Instructions
- Peel, core, and cut 1 medium pear into small chunks.
- Bring 1 cup water to a simmer in a small saucepan. Place the pear chunks in a steamer insert or basket over the water, cover, and steam for 10 minutes until very soft and tender.
- While the pear steams, combine ½ cup steel-cut oats and 2 cups water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce to low. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are creamy and tender.
- Remove both the steamed pear and the cooked oats from the heat. Let them cool for 2 to 3 minutes so they're warm but not scalding.
- Transfer the cooked oats and steamed pear chunks to a blender. Blend on medium-high speed until completely smooth and creamy, about 30 seconds. If using an immersion blender, blend directly in the oat pot until no lumps remain.
- Divide the blended porridge between two bowls. Serve warm.
